AreaSelector is an extremely robust product. Once installed and configured, it works indefinitely without any problems or additional effort. During the installation of your project, these are the most common questions that we are contacted about:
The map doesn’t show up. Instead, I get the following alert concerning the domain
This alert means that you are using the map on a non-licensed domain. Flashmaps Evaluation Packs are only licensed for ‘localhost’. Therefore, if you open the sample HTML pages directly from the hard disc or if you upload the system to a real server, you will get this error.
Note that the URL has to start with ‘http://localhost/’. If you use the local IP (127.0.0.1), although it points to the same location, the system won’t work and you will get this alert.
The map doesn’t show up. Instead, I get an ‘Invalid XML error’ alert
The map loads data to color code the areas or display the POIs/markers from XML sources. If the XML feeds are not the expected ones, the system won’t run correctly and will display the error alert.
This normally happens in the installation process, because the database access credentials have not been set properly or there are some missing files. In order to fix the issue, please click on the URL in the alert to open it on a new browser tab. Normally the response is pretty clear: Database server does not exist; Invalid user/password; etc. Sometimes you will need to carry out this process from the server itself to get full information about the error.
